Skills be lackin'

I wish I had the skills of some of the 3d guys here on dev art. I've been struggling through a pice that I wana use on my portfolio -- WIP Here [link] -- I just can't seem to get my lighting and materials looking good. I'm at a point now where it feels like Im making no progress. I seriously digg doing this kinda work tho and hopefully I'll learn enough to pump out a few more like this but I dont wana get ahead of myself. I wouldn't mind leeching some skills from Vozz [link] , he does that plastic material so awesomeness.
